Paraffin Wax Candles vs Soy Wax Candle - Belle Secrets

Paraffin Wax Candles vs Soy Wax Candle

Paraffin wax is a soft colourless solid derived from petroleum, coal or oil shale that consists of a mixture of hydrocarbon molecules containing between twenty and forty carbon atoms. Most modern candles are made from paraffin wax. Paraffin wax is a by-product of making gasoline. One 2009 study found that burning paraffin wax releases potentially dangerous chemicals, such as toluene. Burning candles made of paraffin releases soot. It’s been supposed that the combustion products from these candles are similar to those released from a diesel engine.

Soy wax candles are vegan candles, made from 100% natural wax derived from the vegetable soybeans. Soy wax is made is derived from plants and therefore environmentally friendly, whereas classic paraffin wax is made from petroleum. Soy wax candles burn more slowly than paraffin wax candles.

Soy wax is clean burning and produces very little soot. Because soy wax is relatively cool burning, any spilled wax is easy to clean up. From an environmental perspective, soy candles are recommended over paraffin or gel candles.

In our store, we use 100% natural plant based wax that is GMO FREE and contains NO paraffin, NO unnatural additives and is also VEGAN and KOSHER.
